PRIVACY & COOKIES.
How we use your information, the choices you have and how to contact us.

Information we use
- Enquiry details: your name, email address, contact number, bike make and model, and the details, photos or attachments you choose to send.
- Customer correspondence: quotes, booking arrangements, service requirements and messages relating to an enquiry, purchase or repair.
- Technical information: our hosting provider processes information such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser and device details, and request times to deliver the website and protect it from abuse.
- Your privacy choice: whether you allow the embedded Facebook feed and aggregate statistics, stored in your browser. The Facebook choice also records its date and notice version.
You provide enquiry information directly. Technical information is generated when your browser requests the website or an external service. Please do not include payment card details, passwords or sensitive personal information in an enquiry.
How the enquiry form works
The form prepares a draft in your own email application. It does not send a message automatically or save your form entries to a website database. Review the draft and press send in your email app to contact us. Your email provider handles the draft and delivery under its own terms. We receive the information only when you send it.
Required fields help us identify and reply to your enquiry; bike details are optional. You can also contact us by telephone, email or in person. Without enough information, we may be unable to answer a question or arrange a service. Preparing an enquiry does not reserve a bike or workshop slot.
Why we use information
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Answer requests for quotes, bike availability, bookings and services; arrange and provide an agreed purchase or repair. | Taking steps at your request before entering a contract, or performing a contract. |
| Respond to general questions, maintain relevant correspondence, manage complaints and protect our business against misuse or claims. | Our legitimate interests in helping customers, running the shop and resolving disputes, balanced against your rights. |
| Maintain records required for tax, accounting or other legal requirements where an enquiry leads to a transaction. | Compliance with a legal obligation. |
| Deliver and secure the website. | Legitimate interests in operating a reliable, secure website. |
| Load the optional Facebook feed and allow associated Meta cookies and tracking. | Your consent. You can refuse or withdraw it through Cookie settings. |
Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing. This website has no mailing-list signup or advertising pixel. We count page views and contact-button clicks as aggregate statistics, as explained below. We do not use your enquiry to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects solely by automated processing.
Who receives information
Information is available to shop staff who need it to handle your request and to the service providers used for hosting, email and communications. This website is hosted through OpenAI Sites; our published email address uses Google Gmail. WhatsApp messages are handled through WhatsApp, a Meta service. Where necessary to fulfil a purchase, source parts or resolve a warranty issue, relevant details may also be shared with suppliers, manufacturers, delivery providers or professional advisers. We may disclose information where the law requires it. We do not sell your enquiry information.
Some providers process information outside the UK. Applicable protections depend on the provider and destination, including adequacy arrangements or approved contractual safeguards where required. Contact us for details relevant to your information. Independent external services also explain their processing and transfers in their own notices: OpenAI, Google, Meta / Facebook and Instagram, and WhatsApp.
How long information is kept
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as it is needed to answer the enquiry and deal with related follow-up. If it leads to a purchase or repair, the relevant details may form part of our customer and transaction records. Retention is determined by the work involved, warranty and aftercare needs, applicable accounting and tax requirements, and whether information is needed to resolve a complaint or legal claim. Information no longer needed should be deleted or anonymised; records needed for an unresolved dispute may be kept until it is settled.
Hosting and communications providers have their own technical-log and backup retention arrangements. Your website cookie choice is valid for 180 days; after that the feed stays blocked until you choose again. You can remove that choice sooner through your browser settings.
Cookies & similar technologies
Optional social media content is off until you allow it. Browsing the site, using its bike filters and viewing product photos do not require optional cookies.
| Service or storage | What it does | Control / duration |
|---|---|---|
crankit-privacy-v1 (local storage) | Remembers whether you allow or block the Facebook feed, and the date and version of your choice. It is not used for advertising. | Stored after a choice. Used for up to 180 days, then treated as expired. Change it below or clear it in your browser. |
crankit-statistics-choice (local storage) | Remembers your preference to allow or block aggregate website statistics. It contains no visitor identifier. | Saved when you change the statistics setting; kept until you change it or clear browser storage. |
| Hosting and security | The hosting platform may use essential technical storage to deliver and protect the website. These functions are separate from optional social content. | Managed by the hosting provider; duration depends on the security or delivery function. |
| Facebook page plugin (Meta) | Displays our latest posts. When allowed, your browser connects to Meta, which receives your IP address, browser information and interactions and may set or read cookies for social features, measurement, personalisation and advertising. If signed in, activity may be associated with your Meta account. | Blocked until you opt in. Cookie names and lifetimes vary with Meta’s service, login status and browser. See Meta’s cookie policy. |
Choose Allow Facebook feed to enable the plugin, or Keep Facebook blocked to browse without it. With permission, the homepage feed loads automatically when you approach its section. Refusing does not affect the rest of the website. Change your mind at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.
Withdrawing permission removes the feed and prevents further loading on this site. It cannot undo information already sent to Meta or remove cookies Meta has already placed. You can manage those in your browser and Meta account settings. If browser storage is unavailable, we apply your choice for the current page only.
Fonts & links to other services
Fonts are requested from Google Fonts, which receives technical details such as your IP address and browser information to deliver them. See Google Fonts privacy information. Google Fonts is separate from our optional Facebook feed.
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Google Maps, our award page and other external links take you to independently operated services when you choose to open them. Those providers’ privacy and cookie policies apply there. Google Maps is a link, not an embedded map. Instagram is a link, not an embedded feed.
Website traffic statistics
We use first-party aggregate statistics to understand which pages are useful and how customers choose to contact us. We count page views, clicks on phone, WhatsApp, email and enquiry links, referring website hostnames and a broad mobile or desktop category. We do not store IP addresses, full referring URLs, names, enquiry contents or visitor identifiers in these statistics. We do not set analytics cookies or identify unique visitors. Counts are retained for up to 90 days; visits and clicks may include repeat visits or automated traffic. You can switch off aggregate statistics in Cookie settings in the footer. We also respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals by disabling this browser-based reporting. Blocking reporting does not affect the rest of the website. Our purpose and lawful basis are our legitimate interests in understanding and improving the website.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis involved, you can ask to access your personal information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use or receive a portable copy. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some rights are subject to legal exceptions, including where records must be retained by law.
Contact us using the details above. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. We normally respond within one month, subject to the extensions and exceptions permitted by law.
Questions & complaints
Please contact us first so we can try to resolve a concern. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113, or write to Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page when the website or the way we use information changes. The date above identifies the latest revision.
